The Faculty of Pharmacy of Biruni University was founded within the Rectorate of Biruni University, which was established according to the Article 156 of the Law on the Establishment of Higher Education Institutions No. 2809 dated 28/3/1983, and it was published in the Official Gazette No. 28926 on 27/2/2014.

Facilities: There are two classrooms with 50 people capacity and three student laboratories with 30 people capacity.
In the 2018-2019 academic year, 60 new students will be admitted.
Assignments of new faculty members and assistants are still going on; at least one lecturer and one assistant will be assigned at each department; it will be completed in September 2017.
Our training period is 5 years including the completion of general education program and compulsory internships. The education program at our faculty is conducted by providing the organization of lessons in the departments of Basic Pharmacy Sciences, Pharmacy Professional Sciences and Pharmaceutical Technology departments. In the first years of the education, a elementary education plan based on chemistry, analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical botany, biology, biochemistry, physiology, pathology, anatomy and other medical sciences is foreseen. In the curriculum for the pharmacy profession (pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy) and technological sciences (pharmaceutical technology, pharmaceutical biotechnology, pharmacokinetics, cosmetology, pharmaceutical toxicology) covering 3 rd and 4 th years starting from the second half of the second year following basic education.
It is expected that at the end of the first 4 years of the pharmacy program which requires practice / laboratory-based training together with theoretical courses, our students will gain the skills of pharmacy concept and professional practice. In the 5th year, elective courses and orientations will be conducted in the fields of free pharmacy, hospital pharmacy and industrial pharmacy. In addition, during the 4th and 5th years, an intensive training program including clinical pharmacy / pharmaceutical care concepts and practices will be implemented and our students are aimed to reach the desired level for the graduation from our faculty having enough knowledge to work in this area.
Pharmacy faculty graduates can no longer open a pharmacy?According to the Law No. 6197 on Pharmacists and Pharmacies, the following legal regulations regarding to the opening of pharmacies were made. For graduates from the year 2012, the following criteria will apply.
Graduates may open a pharmacy but certain rules will be applied:
Criteria for opening a pharmacy:
(1) Number of pharmacies are organized according to the population within the county boundaries, one pharmacy for the three thousand five hundred people will be allowed.
(2) The pharmacy opening criterion according to the population is not applied in transports or moving of the pharmacies in the same district.
(3) A pharmacy is allowed to be opened regardless of population criteria if there is no pharmacy at the area. However, the population criterion will be operated when the pharmacy is going to be moved to other place.
(4) When the criteria for opening the pharmacy are determined, the classification is made according to the socio-economic development of the districts according to the data obtained from the Ministry of Development. According to this classification, a districts coefficient is given to districts. The service score are calculated by multiplying the number of working years of the pharmacists in that district and the district coefficient. If the pharmacist has worked in more than one district, the service scores are added. While the service score is calculated, the score multiplied by 1.25 for the pharmacist who have a PhD degree. A place score is given to the pharmacist by multiplying the total number of years spent in the profession and the service score.
(5) When a pharmacist who has transferred his pharmacy to other pharmacist wants to open a pharmacy again, the score will considered to be half.
(6) The numbers of the pharmacies which are eligible to be opened in the area are announced at least twice a year on the official website of the Institution every year by the Authority which are determined based on the population information declared by the Turkish Statistical Institute .
(7) In case of population reduction due to natural disasters or any other reason, pharmacy opening criterion according to population is not applied when moving the pharmacies in that settlement. Such determination and announcement is made bythe Ministry. Pharmacists who want to open a pharmacy are notified about the places declared by the Authority within thirty days from the date of submission. Applicants should attach the necessary documents to the application dossier as mentioned in the second paragraph. Maximun twenty-five choices can be made in this application. If application documents are incomplete, application requests will not be processed. Legal actions are taken against those who are found to made untrue declaration.
Can Pharmacist only open a pharmacy or is this an only option? What are the other fields for the Pharmacists to work?The possible areas for the pharmacist to work are as follows:
A) To obtain natural and synthetic origin of pharmaceutical raw materials used for diagnosis and treatment of diseases; to prepare and provide medicines to patients using present medicines or various pharmaceutical raw materials.
B) Analyzes the drug.
C) To ensure the pharmacological effect of the drug by constantly monitoring and monitored patients and got information back from the patients considering safety, efficacy and cost.
Ç) Provide standardization of quality and safety related to medicine.
D) Inform patients about problems related to drug use and carry out activities related to reporting problems or advers drug reactions to the authority.
E) Open a cosmetic manufacturing site, drug R & D center, drugstore, etc., or may be responsible for such official or private places.

Is there a need for recently graduated pharmacists in the pharmaceutical sector? In which areas they can work?
- The pharmacy industry wants to employ a Pharmacy graduate. However, since there are a lot of eager or demands for opening the pharmacy, few pharmacists have been working in the pharmaceutical industry today.
- If a pharmacist wants to work in a pharmaceutical industry, the probability of promotion will be much easier and higher positions will be possible for pharmacists than other occupational groups.

Can pharmacists move or transfer their pharmacies?
Procedures and principles regarding opening of the pharmacy are applied. It has been determined by Law No. 6197.
ARTICLE 18 1) The transfer of pharmacy to another pharmacist’s by a pharmacist shall be carried out by an officially appointed officer presence from to the provincial health directorate and a minutes or record paper should be prepared.
Transfer of pharmacy:
ARTICLE 19 (1) Procedures and principles regarding the opening of the pharmacy are applied. The current pharmacy will keep the position until the new license is issued for the new pharmacy. No new license is issued and no tuition fee is paid for moving the pharmacy within the same province.
Is there a compulsory pharmacy provision for one year? What can be done if there is no pharmacy found to do?
It is obligatory to employ a second pharmacist in a pharmacy for the pharmacist who had more than three million Turkish Liras turnover over Excluding the Annual Value Added Tax per year. A further pharmacist must be employed for the every extra two million Turkish Liras added above mentioned three million Turkish Liras turnover. This figure is annually updated and announced by the Agency having the opinion of the Turkish Pharmacists Association. Revenue information is sent to the Agency by the Turkish Pharmacists’ Association annually in April every year.
Pharmacists working in hospital pharmacies as second pharmacists for at least one year will be accepted to be completed their provisional pharmacist obligations.
Is there any requirement to enter KPSS to make hospital pharmacy?No. Pharmacists are assigned to work or accepted by simple drawing, according to the positions the graduation achievements or previous experience are considered by the authorities or Ministry of Health.
What is needed or what to do become an academician?
The average score should be at least 2.72 out of 4 in the faculty, grading must be 70 from 100 in order to be admitted to the PhD programs according to YÖK regulations; 55 from 100 for foreign langugage, 55 from 100 from Ales exam should be also obtained to admit PhD program.
Pharmacy faculty graduates can go directly to Master of Science degree programs if they fulfill the above mentioned conditions and other special conditions if university senates determined.
After Ph.D. Assistant Prof.Dr. title and the assignment can be made if the university requirements are fulfilled. After completing the Associate Professor examination organized by YÖK, the title of Associate Professor will be obtained.
Associate Professors can be appointed as a professorship staff at universities 5 years after having associate professor title.
Is our diploma valid abroad?Our diplomas do not allow graduates to work directly as a Pharmacist abroad. Because every country has its own educational curriculum and it contains differences. Diploma equivalence application is required. Deficiencies are identified in the application and after the completion of all; the country can be entitled applicants to be a Pharmacist. It will be easier for our graduates because our University have entered the Bologna process. 5 year plans of our annual education and training plans will be made to fulfill; some minor differences by taking into account the Erasmus mobility, Bologna criteria, American accreditation organization criteria, our country’s EPA program and accreditation criteria.
Is there any internship possibilities or to work abroad?

Is pharmacy a profitable profession?Pharmacies can also sell cosmetics, dermo-cosmetics, medical first-aid materials, hygiene-related products as well as by-products. The profits of the pharmacies vary depending on where they are opened, relation with patients, personals at the region and the ability to perform the occupation good. It is known that pharmacists earn higher than other places they work, except for public and industry top management positions. It is important that students who will be a pharmacy pharmacist in order to operate a pharmacy to provide good income should be directed in the course of communication and patient relation and informing techniques and clinical pharmacy related courses.
Would you give information about Clinical Pharmacy and its expertise?Expertise branches:
1- Clinical Pharmacy
An expert “clinic pharmacist” will be employed for each 100 to 300 beds having hospitals and for each extra 200 beds an extra”clinic pharmacist” will be employed.
Education will take 3 years for these proffessions. Employment of specialized clinical pharmacists will become mandatory on 1 January 2023. Two semester examinations will be held in 2017. Dates can be followed on the WEB page of the Ministry of Health.
In what years the branching in the Faculty of Pharmacy does happen?Beginning in the fourth semester at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Biruni University, the field can be choosen with elective courses. The elective courses and internships that exist in the fifth year will help student to go to certain area.
What are the internship opportunities? Can clinical pharmacy internship be done at the hospital? What period does the internship start?Internships start in summer at the end of the second year. There are five different internship programs in our faculty education and training plans. 6 months internship in the Pharmacy is mandatory. Clinical Pharmacy Internship at the hospital can be done within the ECZ556 Elective Internship V of final year.

The purpose of the practical internship is to provide students with the knowledge, skills and knowledge of basic pharmacy concept.
ECZ 320 PHARMACY INTERNSHIP II Credits: 2 ECTS: 2
Within the scope of the internship, determination of requirements for pharmacy; drug drug related issues, drug intake and practice at the pharmacy,

The purpose of the practical internship is to provide students knowledge, skills and experience.

The purpose of the internship is to provide students with advanced knowledge, skills and experience in the field of pharmacy practice.
ECZ 506 ELECTIVE INTERNSHIP V

This internship, which students will perform electively work in pharmaceutical industry or hospital pharmacy
Purpose; Students who choose drug industry; will get detailed information about formulation design studies, quality control and quality assurance studies of raw materials and finished products, production studies of different drug forms, studies of sales and marketing units, preparation of license files for licensed and generic products, and studies related to GMP / GLP.
Students who choose hospital pharmacy; It is aimed to increase the knowledge and experience on the issues related to the determination of pharmacy drug requirements, pharmacy intake, pharmacy regulation and settlement, pharmacy needs of outpatient and inpatient patients, pharmacy counseling, pharmacy registration and related to official and informal units of hospital pharmacy.
Is the training language in English?Educational language is Turkish. In the first year, a total of 32 credits including 16 theoretical courses and 4 hours of distance education are given in English.
In the second and third years there are 4 terms of Vocational English classes. In these lessons, it was aimed to learn the professional terminology in English by means of translating and presenting the articles written in various fields of the pharmacy profession. It was also aimed to be educated as a pharmacist in international standards by acquiring the ability to speak professional with organized speech practices that would increase patient communication.

2017-2018 In order to start from the spring semester, our faculty is aiming to open a PhD program and presented to the evaluation of YÖK.
Starting from August 2016, Pharmacist training programs will be launched with a continuing training center, Drug Industry Manager Training and Patient-Focused Pharmacy Management Certificate programs to prepare pharmacy administrators as well as administrators and clinical pharmacy exam preparation for pharmaceutical industry.
What are the difficult part of the Faculty of Pharmacy education?The first two years of pharmacy education support professional and technical courses in the third and fourth grades. For this reason, it is necessary to study hard with the same diligence starting from the first years. Since there is no complete branched Pharmacy education in Turkey and a uniform diploma is given (non-branched), graduate pharmacists are required to be equipped with information that can be employed in all areas of pharmacy. For this reason, a very intensive program is being implemented for 4 years.

What is the scope of the 5th year research project?ECZ501 PROJECT-GRADUATION THESIS in the fall and spring semesters I and II, a total of 18 credits are made within the scope of two courses. Students meet with the faculty member who is selected as a advisor (for 1 hour for every week). In accordance with the directives of advisor, they compile their thesis in the form of compilation or laboratory practice and write in the form of a booklet in the form of a booklet, not exceeding 50 pages. Project taker makes a defense verbally and performs a poster presentation from the thesis. The aim of this course is to give to students the ability to conduct a research on the determined topic related to the professional area under the supervision of their advisors, to gain the students the experience of accessing and benefiting from the related information sources and to acquire the basic knowledge they have acquired during their education and to develop the application skills by blending them in the light of these sources.
What are the requirements for those who wish to make a transfer?
Biruni University internal and inter-institutional transition criteria are made according to the regulations issued by Education and Training Regulations of Biruni University in accordance with the YÖK. The quota is determined by the Senate’s decision in the inter-office passes. All courses of the first grade must be successfully completed for horizontal transfer and it is desirable to have a general average of at least 60% (2.3). There is no transfer accepted after the preparatory class. The contents of courses that have been studied in the previous institution or department and those holding ECTS credits are transferred. Depending on the percentage of the transferred lessons, the class is decided by the commission that created the class and all these evaluations.
Enrollment Status: Currently enrolled student status is required. (Registration is to be frozen

Study period: Candidate can apply to all intermediate classes including preparatory classes.
Basic Score: The ÖSYS central placement score for the year of enrollment is equal to or higher than that of the Biruni University Associate Degree and Bachelor’s degree program.
